Shannan Longzi Airport (隆子机场, LGZ / ZUSH) is a high-altitude regional airport serving Longzi County in Shannan, southern Tibet. Located in Jialuo Village, Ridang Town, the airport is approximately 11 kilometers from Longzi County town and sits at an elevation of about 3,980 meters (13,058 feet).
As a 4C-class military-civilian high-altitude airport, Longzi Airport has a specialized role in southern Tibet. Despite these difficulties, the airport progressed rapidly. Flight testing was completed in November 2022, andShannan LongziAirport officially opened on December 23, 2022. Shannan Longzi Airport is not intended to replace Lhasa Gonggar International Airport. Instead, the two airports have different roles.

- Shannan Longzi Airport, meanwhile, focuses on southern Tibet and border-area communities.
This division allows the two airports to complement each other within Tibet’s growing aviation network.
For most international travelers entering Tibet, Gonggar remains the primary gateway. Longzi is more relevant for specialized southern Tibet itineraries and regional travel.
Future Development of Shannan Longzi Airport
Future development is expected to focus on improving connectivity and operational reliability rather than undertaking a major expansion. The existing terminal and runway are designed to handle approximately 180,000 passengers annually, leaving considerable room for growth. The priority will be to maintain and increase services to Lhasa and Chengdu, while exploring additional seasonal routes to cities with strong tourism or counterpart-support connections.
Operational facilities are also expected to improve. Weather monitoring, navigation, oxygen supply and snow-removal systems can help reduce the effects of high-altitude weather on flight operations. Better ground connections will also be important. Improving roads linking the airport with Longzi town, Yumai and nearby tourism destinations could create a more efficient air-and-road travel network.
The airport is expected to remain part of Tibet’s broader “one main hub and multiple regional airports” aviation strategy.
